Religions of the World: The Demise of Confucianism
Presenter: Puqun Li, PhD (Instructor, Kwantlen Polytechnic University)

In the 1960s, the historian, Joseph R. Levenson, claimed that Confucianism had been “museumfied”.  In the 1980s, historian, Yu Yingshih, lamented that Confucianism had become “a wandering spirit” without a body or dwelling place in Chinese culture.  In this session, Dr. Puqun Li will present the different facets of Confucianism and explain how authentic Confucianism, in many aspects, though not in all, is dying.  How is Confucianism as a religion and philosophy dying?  Who or what is killing it?  What aspects of Confucianism may live on?

Online via Zoom, meeting invitation will be emailed the day before each session

1 session: $10 Class size: max 24

Wednesday: May 5   1:30-3:00pm
